Take the Internet pulse of your digital nomads

Currently at Effinger we have no way of knowing if someone is in the house or not, short of looking physically around the space or asking the Host. The status symbols on Slack could theoretically be used for this, but practically they are at most used to signal people going on holiday.

Several coworking spaces use tracking technologies based on a quick sign-in on a device at the entrance, or MAC addresses to do this automatically based on registered devices. Our networking software actually has a feature like this, which is described in this detailed guide. They also have a door access product.

It would be important to let people know if and how we are going to use this. It should be easy to opt-in and opt-out of the system.

As a starting point we could connect to the UniFi network API (e.g. unificontrol) and at least collect some stats on how many mobile/laptop devices are connected over the course of a week.
